This course is intended to introduce participants to mediation as a concept as well as a skill. We will examine the various stages of the mediation process.
The course will consist of a blend of theory and opportunity for participants to engage in several simulations drawn from a range of settings such as family, neighborhood and the work place. This course meets the requirements of the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act.
Topics Include – Learning the stages of the mediation process – Learning how to convene a mediation – Develop communications skills – Learn ethical standards of practice and professional responsibility

This course shows how to deal constructively with people when their behavior is difficult. Strategies for handling such behavior as verbal attacks, complaining, manipulation, attention-seeking, and excessive talking are covered. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others and learn strategies and intervention techniques to assist them when dealing with difficult people.

This course introduces participants to basic conflict management theory and practices. The nature and dynamics of conflict, levels of conflict, conflict management styles and intervention strategies are examined. Participants will gain insights into their own responses to conflict and learn tools to prevent and resolve conflict.
